We use a laser for certain kinds of fillings, particularly when they are small and require minimal tooth removal. The WaterLase laser is a concentrated beam of light used to evaporate the decay while the tooth is cooled with water.
This hard tissue laser allows us to fill small cavities with little to no discomfort, reducing the need for injections and anesthetic! It preserves more healthy tooth structure than drilling. The key to being able to use the laser instead of a drill is to treat the cavities while they are still small, so regular checkups and cleanings are suggested.
We can also use it to help shape the tooth during some crown preparations as well as to sterilize the inside of a root canal more thoroughly than conventional methods.
It’s a very gentle, safe, conservative method of dentistry.
Typically a drill less filling takes a little longer than a conventional filling
No. This can usually be done in one visit.
Unlike most dentists, KDC does NOT use a dental drill for some kinds of dental fillings. Instead, we use a hard tissues laser. This hard tissue laser allows us to fill small cavities with little to no discomfort, reducing the need for injections and anesthetic! It preserves more healthy tooth structure than drilling.
Due to the time and technology used the treatment will in the regular range of cost for a filling, maybe be a little more.
Most insurance companies will pay for all or some of your treatment. Contact Us today to learn more about how your insurance can cover your dental work.
You should feel completely normal and be able to eat straight away, especially as there is no freezing.
