Key Benefits
- No drilling required
- No freezing required
- Comfortable treatment in one visit
- Removes only the damaged tooth area
We use a laser for certain kinds of fillings, particularly when they are small and require minimal tooth removal. The WaterLase laser is a concentrated beam of light used to evaporate the decay while the tooth is cooled with water.
This hard tissue laser allows us to fill small cavities with little to no discomfort, reducing the need for injections and anesthetic! It preserves more healthy tooth structure than drilling. The key to being able to use the laser instead of a drill is to treat the cavities while they are still small, so regular checkups and cleanings are suggested.
We can also use it to help shape the tooth during some crown preparations as well as to sterilize the inside of a root canal more thoroughly than conventional methods.
It’s a very gentle, safe, conservative method of dentistry.
